Hi there my game works well except for the “AGES” button in the mid-top part of the screen, it’s just transparent as if it were glitched (which it is) because every time I click it it crashes to desktop. I updated the game one by one til 1.28.3 but no luck.

the Game does not even start. Something is blocking it. I checked in Task Manager. when i launch the game, it will be there in the task Manager but then closed automatically. I wonder what is closing the game.

I can’t seem to get the DLCs working, I try to unzip each but they just wont.

I installed the game properly but I always get a message saying: “The program can’t start because MSV140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problems.”
I place MSV140.dll into the game folder and I get the message: “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.”

ed the latest update, and still crashed.
Then i realized that the update installer, does not automatically goes to the installation folder of the EU4 game. So i changed this, installed update, copied skidrow files. And now i am playing the game!

If you are having problems with the starter menu, just install the updates, they are at the end of the post.
If doesn’t start, go to folder pdx_browser and rename CEFProcess.exe to anything e.g. to CEFProcess.old

For those who can’t get the DLC working, when installing the update, make sure to click the checkbox that says “Copy Contents of CODEX directory to installdir”. It emulates steam for the purposes of validating that you have the DLC.

For those who are still wondering how to start the new Paradox Launcher, here’s what you need to do:
-Open launchersettings.json with notepad. Then, find and change “distPlatform”: “steam” to “distPlatform”: “pdx” It should now skip the Steam online verification thing and start the launcher.(Thanks, Reitar!)
For playing with mods:
-Get the mod you want through sites like Steam Workshop er.
-Open the launcher and click on MODS, or just scroll down to the mod section.
-Now you should see MOD TOOLS below the mod section. Click on that.
-Then, fill in all the details of the mod you’ve ed. It doesn’t need to be the same as the original mod.
-Once it’s done, there should now be a folder with the mod name you’ve entered and a “xxx”.mod file inside Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod
-Now, copy the content from the mod that you’ve ed into the mod folder created by you using MOD TOOLS, but don’t copy the descriptor.mod from the mod you’ve ed, as
there is already a same file inside Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod/(the mod folder you’ve created) created by MOD TOOLS
-For mods with a “xxx”.bin format, use WinRar or any archive software to extract its content. Then, follow the above steps.
-To manage more than 5 mods, click on MANAGE MODS, as the mod section only shows a maximum of 5 mods.
BONUS:
For those who wants to play with Extended Timeline enabled, you will have to replace the province files inside your game folder with the ones form ET, as the provinces are mixed up when you run the game with the original province id and ET’s province id (It worked just fine in 1.28, blame Paradox)
To do this,
-Backup your history/provinces folder inside your root EU4 game folder and put them somewhere safe.
-Open your extended timeline mod folder or archive, then go to history/provinces and copy everything inside. Then, paste them into (your root EU4 folder)/history/provinces.
-Note that you can no longer play with Vanilla EU4 with this method. To revert back to Vanilla EU4, simply remove ET’s province files from your EU4 game folder and move the original
provinces folder back.

Note that you would have to delete the original provinces folder inside the EU4 root folder for this to work, as there will be some leftover province files if you straight up pasted everything into the provinces folder located inside the EU4 root folder.
UPDATE: NEW AND BETTER METHOD TO INSTALL MODS!!!
1) the mod and extract to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod/(your mod folder name) (folder name is your choice, but preferably the original name of the
mod)
2)Copy the descriptor.mod found inside your mod folder and paste it outside of the your mod folder (DON”T USE CUT OR DELETE, THE GAME NEEDS THE DESCRIPTOR.MOD BOTH IN AND
OUTSIDE OF YOUR MOD FOLDER TO THE MOD, OTHERWISE IT WON’T SHOW UP!!!) such that there are 2 descriptor.mod, one inside and outside of your mod.
3)Open the descriptor.mod OUTSIDE of your mod folder. Find archive=”modname.zip” and change it to path=”mod/modname” (DO NOT FORGET ABOUT PUTTING “mod/” BEFORE YOUR
MOD). If there isn’t one in your descriptor.mod, then create one next to Name=”modname”.

ThiccLord64.exe cannot find the Launchersettings.json file … where is it located?
It’s in the root folder of EU4 (The place where eu4.exe and dowser.exe is located)
In my root folder, the file doesn’t exist… I’ve ed the file from this site, and installed it, but there is no file named launchersettings.json…. 🙁

LoL you haven’t even installed the 1.29 update for EU4 bro! The version you’re currently playing is 1.28! This post is only for those who had problem with EU4 1.29, so if you want to play with EU4 1.29, the update is located up there on this page, below “List of all updates for Europa Universalis IV Golden Century” (The update’s kinda buggy ATM, which is why I created this post)
So, if you want to play with EU4 1.29, install the update first, then launcher-settings.json along with everything else associated with version 1.29 should appear right inside your folder, then you will be able to proceed with the instructions. Hope it helps!

For the people who keep having the launcher crash. Blacklist EU4.Exe in your firewall, or disable internet when you open the game. It will launch and it does work. The launcher tries to auto connect to the internet and it crashes if it connects. Weird I know but it works.

hello, i updated everything and changed steam to pdx in json file but it keeps crashing ( i can hear the music tho and see the logo of the game but later on the paradox crash report window appears and ends the game process i suppose)

I got the launcher working per instructions. Allthough, the DLC doesnt seem to work:
-Once in the launcher, it says the DLCs are enabled but there is a red triangle indicating: “We were unable to ownership of this DLC” on every single one.
-Starting the game from the launcher fails as well with the same red triangle.
-Thus I have to start the game directly from the folder, bying the launcher. Doing this however make the DLCs unabled.
——-What I have done——-
-Changed the “steam” to “pdx” in the launcher-settings.json file
-Extracted every DLC rar.file in their respective subfolder inside of the initial DLC-folder.
-Blocked the game in my firewall.
Sidenote: When I just run the game.exe I still get a message telling me it failed connecting to steam, allthough the game still starts but without DLC as previously stated.
Okay guys, I got the game working with all DLCs and solving the problem above by doing this:
-Uninstalled game and all contents.
-re-install. (CHECK BOX THAT SAYS “copy contents from codex folder” DURING INSTALL!)
-IOnstall update 28.3, 29.0, and 29.3 in that order. (CHECK BOX THAT SAYS “copy contents from codex folder” DURING EVERY INSTALL!)
-Change “steam” to “pdx” in launcher-settings.json file
-Start the game from the “eu4-exe” and bying the launcher.
-Play withh all DLC.

after following all steps mentioned by SchooldboyD, just go to properties>compatibility> run as win7> disable fullscreen optimization

Hey guys just wanna share that i have fix my problem. First i install the game correctly but it says MSV140.dll is missing then i search how to fix it and it brought me to new msv140.dll(you can search on youtube “how to fix msv140.dll missing) then copy it to the system32 for 32-bit pc and if you have a 64 bit pc like me, both The MSV140.dll file x64 and x86. Both file contain the same name of msv140.dll, so be careful, place the msv140.dll in x86 file to system32 and for the msv140.dll in x64 to SysOW64(if im not wrong). After doing so, i start the game But the game still doesnt work and another error message (0xc00007b). I’ve try hard to find the way to fix it but still doesnt work. Then i try reinstall the Microsoft visual 2019 for both x64 and x86 because my pc is 64 bit. And thank god, the game working. Hope this can solve your problem too guys, enjoy…
